SPLINTS and NIGHTGUARDS

Splints are used to protect tooth surfaces, manage mandibular jaw disfunction, and stabilize occlusion or create space prior to restoration procedures. People prone to nocturnal bruxism, or nightime clenching should routinely wear occlusal splints.

The Occlusal Splint:
The most widely used TMJ Splint. Full coverage acrylic provides support of both arches while opening the bite to align and relax the joint and surrounding tissues. Cuspid rise disclusions for anterior excursions are included.
The acrylic is trimmed to a horseshoe shape and is contoured for maximum patient comfort.

Centric Relation Splint:
Fabricated to achieve centric stops from the lower posterior buccal tips or upper lingual tips. Acrylic is added to the anterior region to form a ramp, providing incisal guidance and cuspid protection.

Anterior Repositioning Splint:
The upper splint position is maintained by means of an acrylic flange, which rests lingual to the lower anteriors and indexes the lower buccal cusps. The flange maintains position even at night when the jaw relaxes.

Flat Occlusal Plane Splint:
It is fabricated on the maxillary or mandibular arch. It is a full-coverage splint with an even, flat occlusal surface for the opposing teeth to contact.

Dual Laminate Splint:
Any of the above splints can be fabricated using our dual laminate material of hard polycarbonate and soft vinyl laminate. The interior surface is soft and the occlusal contact surfaces are hard. Cold cure acrylic can be added for adjustment during treatment.

Gelb Splints:
The Gelb Splint is used to reposition the mandible and can also be used to recapture the disc. The Gelb is fabricated on the mandibular arch.

Soft Bruxism Guards:
A soft splint worn at night time, it can be fabricated on the maxillary or mandibular arch.

*Accurate full arch upper & lower impressions, as well as the bite taken in the desired position is essential in fabricating a successful splint or       nightguard.
